For over 100 years, the Vienna Chamber of Labor (AK) has been advocating for employees’ rights. The documentary For the Many offers intimate insights into the daily work of this unique institution, which supports people on social and labor law issues. In the style of Direct Cinema, forgoing interviews and voice-over commentary, the film follows the AK as it prepares for its anniversary, showcasing the breadth of its activities: from personal consultations on workplace rights violations and discrimination, to economic analyses, to public events. Yet challenges are growing – digitalization, globalization, and, not least, the Covid-19 pandemic present the organization with new difficulties. Director Constantin Wulff paints a smart and comprehensive portrait of this indispensable institution. For the Many is a vivid contemporary document on the transformation of the world of work and the importance of solidarity in uncertain times.
