“Women in politics, ladies, is simply against the divine order.”
Switzerland, 1971. In the seclusion of an idyllic village, Nora lives as a housewife and mother. Her daily life is shaped by rigid gender roles and seemingly unshakeable social expectations. Apolitical and conformist, her life follows clear structures until the impending referendum on women’s suffrage begins to shake this order to its core. As voices are raised rejecting women’s political aspirations as unnatural, Nora begins to question what she had taken for granted. Hesitantly at first, then with growing determination, she commits herself to the cause of equality, encountering resistance that extends even to her closest circle.
In „Die göttliche Ordnung“, Petra Volpe transforms the private sphere into a political space of resonance – a place where social power relations, deeply entrenched patriarchal structures and social dynamics are reproduced and perpetuated, yet are simultaneously called into question. This continues until a quiet doubt gives rise to an awareness that transforms into political self-empowerment and resistance. (Tessa Pittrof)
“In the charming and heart-warming comedy "Die göttliche Ordnung", which explores the struggle for equality and the introduction of women’s suffrage in Switzerland, chauvinistic prejudices clash with genuine solidarity among women.” (Filmcasino)
